Gastroscopes

  • Inserted through the mouth.

  • Used to view the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

  • Common Procedure Names: Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), Upper Endoscopy, Gastroscopy.

  • Shorter insertion tube than a colonoscope.

  • Model numbers include "G"

Colonoscopes

  • Inserted through the anus.

  • Used to view the rectum, sigmoid, and large intestine (large bowel/colon).

  • Common Procedure Names: Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy, Lower Endoscopy.

  • Longer and thicker insertion tube than a gastroscope.

  • Has a variable stiffness control.

  • Model numbers include "C"

Duodenoscopes (ERCP)

  • Inserted through the mouth.

  • Used to view the duodenum and access the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder ducts.

  • Used for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures.

  • Similar length to a gastroscope.

  • Has a side-viewing camera.

  • Has a forceps elevator mechanism.

  • Model numbers include "TJF"

Ultrasound Endoscopes (EUS)

  • Inserted through the mouth or anus.

  • Used to view soft tissues and anatomical structures inside or connected to the gastrointestinal tract.

  • Two types of ultrasound tips: Radial and Linear.

  • Has an ultrasound connector as well as a scope connector.

  • Linear ultrasound endoscope has a forceps elevator and side-viewing camera similar to the ERCP.

  • Common Procedure Names: Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Fine-Needle Aspiration (FNA).

  • Model numbers include "U"
